Muttan – Pure Cow Dung Cakes for Yagyas

Muttan is a sacred offering prepared with deep reverence and devotion at Jayalakshmi Ghosala, using fresh cow dung from native Indian cows. These dung cakes are hand-cast into compact circular moulds—measuring 4 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches in thickness—and left to dry under the open sky in a natural environment, preserving their purity, potency, and spiritual sanctity.

Traditionally, Muttan is used as a primary fuel source for Agnihotra, Samithadhanam, Yagnas, and other Vedic fire rituals. Its slow, steady burn emits a unique sacred aroma that purifies the air and uplifts the spiritual atmosphere. Revered in the scriptures and embraced by Acharyas and Agnihotris, Muttan symbolizes the union of Earth’s natural energy with the divine fire (Agni).

What is Muttan?

Each Muttan is prepared by filtering fresh cow dung to remove impurities, then shaped into dense, solid cakes using traditional moulds. These are dried in natural sunlight without artificial heat, preserving the spiritual essence.
